The internet offers information in an easily searchable, easily obtainable and open all hours format that other media cannot. The notice in the local paper may not be seen by all and costs to be placed every week. The posters outside the church are only seen by those passing. The local library list of churches and service times is sometimes out of date, and gives you no idea of the feel of the church.
Why have a web presence?
In short it is an accessible, open medium where information can be circulated and viewed (information of all types from text to pictures, notices to Bible study notes).
Yes, it does cost money, but you'll be reaching lots of people and also supporting your own members, and hopefully adding to your numbers as new people come to your area or come in through national initiatives like the Alpha Course or the Y Course.
